Lake Eufaula - Freshwater Fishing Report

Winter has finally arrived. The cold winds make Bass fishing a good challenge. They are scattered from the shallows to the ledges. This time of year it is important to fish slow. If you are worming, you can just about stop all together and when you begin to pull on the bait you will often have a bite. The cold water slows down the fish and they need to be "finessed" into a bite. Texas and Carolina rigs are good as are jigs with "BIG" trailers. These can be fished extra slow. If you like the crank bait, tie on a really deep diver and crank it very slow. This will allow you to keep the lure in shallower water and retrive it very slow. Wear plenty of warm cloths and drink lots of water.
Crappie are best this time of year. The fishermen do not have to get up at the crack of dawn as these fish do better when the sun is up. Minnows and small jigs are best here on Lake Eufaula. Structure, bridge pilings and brush piles are great spots to find them schooling. The new fish attractors we placed this last year are also designed to hold crappie. You can find these marked with the white and red tube buoys.
Catfish are still biting on cut bait or worms. They are always good food any time of year.
Hunting seasen started last Saturday and there is plenty of room on the lake now. You have to look hard to find another boat to get in your "hot spot" and it will be that wat until January 31, 2003.
Remember to check out the Lee King Benefit Buddy Tournament information on my web site and take a look at the gifts for fishermen.
'Till next time,
God Bless & Good Fishn'
