Big Pine Key - Saltwater Fishing Report
It has been warm here in the Florida Keys.. The water temperatures have been in the high 70's and low 80's.. This makes me and the fish very happy.
The tarpon, have started to appear in the regular early season basins.. Hopefully barring any cold fronts, here to stay.. We jumped a big one on a white fly yesterday, but I was not fast enough with the camera... She broke us off on the first jump.. It is important to lower your rod and give the tarpon as much slack as you can when they go air born.. Bow to the Silver King..
There have been a lot of permit on the flats... I hear reports of a few bonefish, being caught too.. I have been chasing tarpon since the water warmed up enough to find them..
Tarpon, permit and bonefish are the glamour species here in the Florida Keys... But we have other fish too.. Barracudas are an absolute blast... Vicious strikes. speeds up to 30 mph and great jumps... what is not to like?
For you parents on spring break vacation with kids.... Kids love shark fishing!!!
Sharks will eat a well presented fly as well... they make big runs and are strong..
Tarpon season has started.. I still have days available in April, May and June.. I am on the water most days, the best time to call is between 5:00 and 7:30 pm
Lets go fishing!
