Destin - Saltwater Fishing Report
The fish have been cooperating for us all year, but they have really turned it up a notch recently. We are getting bigger fish to the boat and more of them. Last week we fished the West side of the bay a few times around the Destin area and got on a school of some 7-11 lb. redfish, all in less than 3 feet of water. We were catching them on live bait as well as topwater lures, which is by far the funnest way to catch a redfish. We had multiple double and triple hookups and actually ran out of bait a few times and had to go net more and then return to find the fish just as hungry.
We found this 29" redfish with a mirrolure stuck in its throat. I was glad to see he was still feeding good.
Today we went out and fished the east side of the bay to get away from the choppy, churned up water in the west and we found some really nice fish. Among the catch was a 26" redfish and really nice speckled trout just over 26". The shallow water bite should stay strong all through the fall and into early winter.
The 22" speck had a pinfish the size of my hand in its belly and it still went after a baitfish about the same size. Just shows how well they are chewing right now...I love fall fishing!!!
