Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report
Biscayne Bay nights
The baby tarpon in the urban areas of Biscayne Bay were eating flies this past week, but only when a few shrimp were moving with the tide. It's the last trickle of shrimp right now and when none are present the fish get lockjaw when you can find them. We jumped several early in the week on Night flies tied on circle hooks but in every instance the fish wore through the shock tippet. At one bridge we also found large ladyfish (some over 3lbs..) feeding at the surface. Every cast was a hook-up using the same 1/0 flies that we used for the tarpon.
Flamingo, Shark River area
Flamingo is still the best bet of all the fishing available right now. On Saturday we caught trout, reds, snapper, ladyfish, and sharks while losing two large snook. This was at just one spot... All along the shorelines north and south of the Shark River along the Gulf coast there are large schools of small baitfish that are barely larger than glass minnows and all of the predators are feeding heavily. We scored on lures and bait on almost every cast. Although we could see small tarpon working the shore the sharks were generally a lot quicker. We even had sharks chasing plugs back to the boat. From now until the end of November the action from Cape Sable to the Rogers River should get better every day
