Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report
This will be a brief report, the fishing right now is nearing its fall peak along the Gulf coast of the Everglades and I'll be down at the ramp this morning before 6:30Am...
This past week it's been snook, redfish, trout, large tarpon, tailing sheepshead, spanish mackeral, and a variety of other species. Every day now there are vast quantities of baitfish available along the coast. Some days I have to release a third of the baits in the net so that I can lift it... First thing in the morning we've had good strikes snook fishing with top water plugs. As the day progresses we're finding them at all the usual spots around river mouths and downed trees. At the lower stages of the tide the sight-fishing for redfish has been great with lots of slot sized fish around oyster bars and clear water shorelines along with sheepshead in water shallow enough that they're tailing. Places where lots of bait is holding next to a bit deeper water have late season tarpon nearby. We've put them in the air up to 80lbs this week. Most of the tarpon action has been in the mornings.
Water temperatures have been dropping noticeably but by afternoon we still are finding shallow shorelines with 80 degree water... Soon now the tarpon will disappear offshore but all of the snook, reds, and trout will be biting every day.
