Afternoon Delight In Fort Lauderdale

Capt. Vinnie Sacks
February 6, 2024
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Capt. Vinnie here, this week in Fort Lauderdale we have had some excellent fishing so we will get right into it, starting off on the troll in the mornings it has been somewhat slow there has been a few king mackeral as well as a few Bonito not really much action on the inshore side of things. Moving to the offshore there has been some decent sized skipjack tunas in depths of 500 feet or so and a few mahi and possibly a wahoo if luck is on your side. This week there has not been much current off the coast of fort Lauderdale so we were able to do a little bit of bottom fishing in the deep for one of my favorite fish to catch snowy grouper. Now this species of grouper is normally closed all up and down the coast but fort Lauderdale has its own niche see because these grouper are open in state waters right now and since fort Lauderdale gets deep so quickly we can reach the depths they like and still be legally in state waters. We had the right conditions to give it a try and it payed off big time catching 3 groupers on 1 drop! (pictured) There also has been a few yellow eye snappers and vermillion snappers on some of the deeper rock piles as well. The afternoons right now has had some of the best fishing we have seen in a long time and thats why the title of this report is afternoon delight. The afternoons right now have been producing an EXCELLENT blackfin tuna bite and mixed in with them is skipjack tuna and bonito, also where there are tuna there is always something bigger looking to eat them and that would be the wahoo. The tuna have been turning on around 2pm in the afternoons and baits fished on the surface have been out fishing baits under the surface which is normally the opposite. I would say if you were looking to do some deep sea fishing in Fort Lauderdale right now sleep in and book the afternoon charter its been that big of a difference and who doesn't like fresh tuna! This week be sure to check out some of the great photos of some recent catches we had while out on our deep sea fishing charters and also remember to give us a like and follow on social media platforms like facebook and instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing so you can see what we are up to day to day. Next few days windy here but looks really nice for Thursday and the weekend it should be excellent conditions for fish like sailfish. We have availability for this week and next so if your in town and looking to do some deep sea fishing we would love to have you. Capt. Vinnie
