January Catches In Fort Lauderdale

Capt. Vinnie Sacks
January 10, 2024
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie here, what a great start to the year we have been having on the last few trips this week so that means a solid report for you guys. Starting inshore this week its been somewhat windy so bottom fishing has been out of the question here but usually when the water is churned up the pelagic fish tend to bite and thats exactly what happened. Inshore this week on the edge of the reef there has been some larger king mackeral as well as some larger bonitos, trolling has been somewhat slow on the kingfish and bonito but kite fishing with live bait has been producing fairly well right now. Live goggle eye has been the bait of choice and any depth inside of 180 feet has been a great place to start, kite fishing is primarily to target game fish like sailfish but it has been producing some kingfish up to 20lbs and some larger bonitos and a few smaller sharks as well. On the offshore side of things seems that the afternoon has been best lately as the wahoo bite has been on fire for the last few days. Trolling in depths from 200-350 feet of water has been where the wahoo have been and mixed in as a bycatch has been some quality blackfin tuna as well, normally when we start to see tuna as a daily catch the wahoo are not far behind. Last but not least there has been a few mahi mahi in the mix although they are primarily a seasonal fish and tend to bite best in summer we have been catching a few lately due to all the windy days we have been having. This week please be sure to check out some of the great photos of some recent catches we have caught while out on our deep sea fishing charters out of Fort Lauderdale including a 56lb wahoo (pictured). Also remember to give us a like and a follow on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing content. As we approach mid January something coming up that is exciting is sharks and some big ones at that, February is the start of our big game shark fishing so that is something to look forward to as well as the blackfin tuna action picking up and sailfish to. If your coming down to Fort Lauderdale and looking to do some deep sea fishing look us up we would love to show you a good time on the water...
