Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report
Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie here, some great fishing going on right now just off the coast of Fort Lauderdale and great weather too. This weeks report is similar to last weeks report starting on the reef is where most of the action has been at, trolling in the early mornings has been one of the most consistent things to do right now, anywhere from 90 to 120 feet there has been a nice mess of fish to catch bonitos, and kingfish mostly but there has been a few cero mackeral as well as a few mahi mahi chasing live baits. Fresh bonito strips cut daily is key in order to catch the kingfish right now, also live baits like pilchards have been a great way to target the kings as well. On days with light winds and north currents we have been anchoring up on the reef in around 80 feet of water and catching some nice sized yellow tail snappers as well as a few kings and mackeral. Yellowtail snapper is one of the best eating fish around very mild and flaky meat and served on almost every menu for dinner in the keys. On the deeper side of the reef there has been a few blackfin tuna mixed in with the bonitos, there seems to be no real way to target them just more of a luck thing when trolling. There has been lots of seaweed around lately that has been a real pain, some days better then others some days worse, but it always seems on days with bad seaweed that the barracudas bite, so we have been getting a few larger barracuda lately as well. Last thing on the reef that has been good before we move offshore is sharks. Shark fishing still remains very good right now a few different species we have been catching, sandbar sharks as well as hammerhead sharks to name a few. Sharks fishing is strictly catch and release and although may not be for everyone it is still a great way to pull on something big. Last but not least way offshore I have been hearing a few reports about mahi mahi, there has been a good amount of fish offshore but since its early in the season for mahi most have been on the smaller side but there still has been a few good sized fish around, finding birds and or something to fish to is going to lear you to the winners circle out there, I would say another few weeks when I start to hear more consistent reports of fish out there we will be heading out to start to look for mahi. This week please be sure to check out the great photos of some recent catches caught aboard our deep sea fishing charters and remember to give us a follow on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing content. A good amount of availability this week if your looking to do some deep sea fishing in fort Lauderdale please give us a shout we would love to show you a good time on the water.
