Southwest Florida Fishing Report - Bonita Springs to Captiva

Capt. John GiddyUp-Bunch
February 11, 2006
Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing in SW FL has been very difficult of late. Billions of gallons of fresh water are still being flushed down the C-Hatchie River. There is growing concern if a fix to this monumental problem is possible. Trout and Redfish have provided some cheap thrills of late but Snook have been tough to find.

Trout: Never again will I rag on Trout or Jacks. If they were not showing me some love, times would really be tough. Big Handpicks with their tails pinched off appear to be the most attractive bait. Oyster beds on incoming tides have been producing much better than docks or potholes. The areas north of Chino Island seem worth the ride.

Redfish have been very tough to find unless you are a kayak guy or a Hell's Bay guy. In other words, the Reds are in the shallows. Severe Low Tides around the full moon offers the perfect opportunity to go shallow.

Big Cold Front is on the way. If you believe the Weatherlady, it should get cold enough over the next few days to sleep with anything warm. "GiddyUp"
