Southwest Florida Fishing Report - Bonita Springs to Captiva

Capt. John GiddyUp-Bunch
October 26, 2007
Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

MAYDAY! MAYDAY! MAYDAY! This is a Redfish alert for South Matlacha Pass (Power Lines)and Snook alert for Tarpon Bay. And speaking of Tarpon, never has there been a greater opportunity to catch a tarpon from the beach in SW FL. This is something this Captain/Outdoor Writer has never done (oh, I could make claim to say I scored 5 in one morning like some of the TOTAL BS I here but not from me). Me is still a beach fishing on land Virgin. When it happens to me, all of you will be the first to know. For those who have landed and released a tarpon from shore, I salute. "I am not worthy." GiddyUp!

Redfish: Da bite is on. Weather pattern are perfect. Everything is all unsettled. Barometric Pressure doesn't know if it should go up or down. Up and down always sounds good to me in more ways than UNO. Pressure changes are driving the fish nuts right now.

As you know, I love cut Ladyfish soaked on the bottom. The fresher the better. Try the areas around Redfish Pass and the islands close to Chino. If you hum, they will come. Try this. Take your wife or girlfriend fishing and have her lean over the side, lips puckered, and start humming. Direct to perform minor splashing with lips or hands. The redfish will hear this or smell the Ladyfish and "Fish On!" It has been working for me lately.

Snook: I asked 20 people last night (all anglers) to tell me the current Snook Regs. IT IS: 28" to 32"

1 Fish per day per person. If you know of anyone violating this rule, REPORT THEIR ASS! I watched 1 boat with 2 anglers scoring snook off the docks at the entrance of Tarpon Bay. FWC is on my speed dial.

Description of boat, numbers, and all other 411 was related to Law Enforcement. I greatly encourage all anglers to bust those who fish by "Native Rules" (I've lived here for 20 years and nobody is going to tell me......). Those guys. Join me in an effort to relocate them to a f-cell downtown. Look out Blood Pressure.

Try Ding Darling for Snook. It's pretty good right now.

King Macks are all over Big Lip +25 Lures. I like a Redhead with Pearl Body made by Yo-Zuri. Use 60LB Fluro instead of wire leader. You will only cut off 1-10 has been my rate (unless your luck just sucks).

Grouper: Keeper Grouper can now be found around docks and inshore structure. Hopefully I don't have to tell you what docks. About 1 mile from the Waterfront Restaurant is a great grouper spot. Maybe I will tell you where it is one day (but I doubt it).

Pompano? I will look for them this Sunday on my charter and let you know. "GiddyUp"
