SeaVee Boats - Catch More Fish

Fishing Report for Homosassa, Florida

Capt. Mike Locklear
April 12, 2007
Homosassa - Saltwater Fishing Report

Wind, Rain, Cold, Fog & finally SUNSHINE!

This past week has been hard on most west coast fishing guides with several trips canceled after the cold front of Easter Weekend.

After some much need rain and stormy conditions this past week conditions improved even though today was so foggy you could cut it with a knife.

Joe and Derrick Peters from the Garden State of New Jersey booked a full day of fishing. We started out at the Bombing Range and things were sort of slow all morning. We landed a couple of spotted sea trout. They call them “weakies” in Jersey. Then Derrick landed two keeper sea bass and a mackerel.

We moved inshore and tried our luck at redfish and we could not get a bite. The tide was not high enough. Excuse number 111 in the “Why Don’t They Bite” book. We saw some really nice trout and redfish but just could not get them to eat. I think Murphy was on the boat.

Finally towards the end of the day both the Peters’ landed two trout of 18 and 23 inches. We were using live pinfish and a few of the trout got off aka “Palm Beach Released”.

The rest of this week and next should be stronger tides and enable us to find the reds and trout. Cobia should return by this weekend. We needed a little warmer water temps. Gulf temperature need to be in the mid 70’s for them to come back.

Hopefully the cold fronts will leave us alone, but I hear another is on the way for the weekend.
