Key Largo Fishing Report 5/22/13 Backcountry/Reef Fishing
Trips in the Backcountry in the past weeks have all been doing good. Fish are in decent numbers and holding on a variety of spots. The creek mouths have produced snook,
trout, jacks and mangrove snapper. Shorelines are also holding snook, redfish, jacks
and snapper as well. Fishing over the shallow grass beds lots of good size trout mixed in with jacks, ladyfish and a few pompano. Casting 10 lb spin with shrimp and lures in shallow water has been the ticket to some fun fishing in the Backcountry.
A few smaller tarpon closer to home with fish landed up to 30lbs.
Reef fishing off Key largo has produced good action on yellowtails, snapper, grouper, cero macks, porgies, jacks, sharks and cuda.Free line fishing in the chum line has hooked up most of the good yellowtails and macks.Fishing on the bottom with cut or live ballyhoo has bagged a few grouper (now in season)
. Fishing shrimp on the bottom has yielded all the above plus a bunch of other reef species. Fishing the reefs off Key Largo provides year round action and a variety of species to long to list.
