Key Largo Fishing Report 3/31/13 Inshore Reef Fishing
With the end of March here in key Largo I would think that we will be done with any cold fronts that pack any punch. From the first day to the last week of this month we had to endure more north wind then we have had all winter this year. Backcountry fishing has held its own for the most part but on the really cooler days the Inshore rocks and reefs have been the way to go. Fishing Key Largo just a few miles out on the Atlantic side this past week we had good action with a decent variety of fish.In depths of 10 to 20 feet we got good mangroves, yellowtails, hogfish, cero macks, porgys

and some nice sized black grouper mostly on live ballyhoo.

Grouper remain closed till May first so we had release these fish. Also on live bait there where lots of jacks,

shark

and cuda on the shallow reefs keeping the rods bending. A bit deeper on the reef edge we got good yellowtails(if you could get threw the trigger fish),macks, mutton snapper, cudas and even bagged a Wahoo on spin one trip, very cool.

Thats the best part of reef fishing you just never now what can swim into your chum line and get on the line.My Mako open fisherman sits on the anchor well and is perfect for this fishing.Back on a warming trend here in Key Largo I think we made threw winter 2013.This will open the door to more consistent water temps and make all types of Fishing in Key Largo a bit more predictable.
