Snook and Redfish

Capt. Matt Hoover
September 5, 2013
Marco Island - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing is really starting to heat up. The fall migration is just now starting to show. I wouldn't say that it is in full swing yet, but baitfish are starting to fill the beaches and snook, redfish, trout, and jacks are following suit.
I had some fruitful trips this week with snook and redfish. Throwing live bait near the bushes where the water has been moving have produced small to slot sized snook in the double digits on each trip. I have been doing very well with the redfish too. Almost all of the redfish that we caught this week have been in the slot or larger. Trout are hanging out where snook like to be. Trout fishing has been good over the grass flats as well. Jacks and ladyfish have been filling the gaps.
I have been seeing a few larger tarpon around so I keep a rod or two on the boat for a chance encounter.
Fishing is only going to get better as the temperatures cool and the fall migration progresses. I always look forward to this time of the year as fishing will get red hot. Give me a call for your own fishing date.
