Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report
Welcome 2025
The Holidays are over, and we welcome in 2025. I would like to thank all my clients, sponsors, friends and family for helping out this year and making 2024 a memorable one. We had lots of great catches and lots of laughs! Now we are ready to make 2025 another great year. We are stoked to see many of our repeats are coming back this winter to sample some great sailfishing and great swordfishing as well. In between the sails and the swords, we will also be catching mahis, wahoo, kingfish, cobias etc.
December started off strong for sailfish but then slowed down a bit. We were still getting a few shots a day, but we are always hopeful for more. This upcoming full moon should get the sailfish chewing again and we can't wait for our first double digit release day of 2025. Since we are on the subject of sailfish, we fished the Fish for Holly Sailfish Tournament out of Islamorada in the Florida Keys. The Fish for Holly is for a great cause and has also grown into the largest sailfish tournament in the keys. We were fortunate enough to get 3rd place out of 78 boats and also won Top Tuna. It was a fun time and always fun to compete.
Our second trip of 2025 was with a great customer, Dave and his sons. We almost always target swordfish at least one of the many trips Dave books with us and on Jan 2 we went daytime swordfishing. The day started out slow, but luck was with us again and at 1:30pm we hooked a decent fish. After about an hour we boated a beautiful 240-pound swordfish.
Prior to the holidays we had another trip to the Bahamas targeting wahoo and did really good with those as well. It's been a real busy few weeks and I am hopeful that it stays that way. Although we have bookings for this winter it seems to still be slower than normal, so if you haven't made your plans, now is the time to book and enjoy some great weather and get out of the cold which is plaguing most of the U.S. Just remember we get cold fronts in Miami too but our cold fronts are 50 degrees compared to sub-freezing everywhere else in the nation!
Tight Lines,
Capt. Dean Panos
