Early Signs of Spring

Capt. Chris McCubbin

Naples - Saltwater Fishing Report

I have to say that even with all the cold weather we have been getting in Naples, the fishing has stayed steady. Pilchards have been available everyday, on the beaches and wrecks.
I fished the last 5 days in a row and the fishing was good. Water temps have been in the high 60's, but the water has been stained and a little milky with all this north wind.
Snook are here and we have been getting between 7-15 every trip. They are not monsters, but are getting bigger as the water is warming. Pilchards are the way to go and heavy chumming is required. I have been fishing 2-4ft of water over mud bottom where it warms quickly.
Trout fishing is still good if you know where to go. They have been getting hit hard by everybody and there brother. Rough weather offshore has kept a lot of the bigger boats in the back, and trout are the main targets in the channels. I have switched from my normal DOA Cals to live pilchards fished with a small split shot fishing deeper cuts. I have been doing well with trout to 23in. The ladyfish, jacks and bluefish are mixed in so you are staying busy.
Yesterday my angler Jeff got a 30lb tarpon fishing a small cove. The fish smashed some chummers I had thrown in and Jeff made a well placed cast that was quickly eaten. She put on a nice liitle show and was a pleasant suprise to me.

Naples Fishing Forecast:

March fishing is typically the start of Spring for us. Look for all the main species to be showing up inshore and off. Tarpon, snook, redfish, trout and pompano will all be showing this coming month in the inshore waters. Kingfish, cobia, permit, barracuda, sharks and mackeral will all start to fill in on the beaches and wrecks. Book your trip now to secure your spot. Tarpon season is getting closer and dates are filling in. 239 404 6255

Snook and Trout
