Naples Fishing Report

Capt. Chris McCubbin
March 10, 2009
Naples - Saltwater Fishing Report

Wow what a week of warm weather can do for the fishing. The water finally held at 70+ all day today and the fish responded. All week long fishing has been good, but today they really were chewing. Pilchards have been a little tricky lately with this big moon, but they are on the wrecks just pay close attention to the bottom.
I have been focusing more on the passes and docks for snook and big jacks. The snook are in the 24-30in range, but we have got broke off in the docks by some real nice fish. In the passes its a real mixed bag of snook, mackeral, jacks, blues, ladyfish and snapper. Plenty of action, just tough to get a good snook bite going with all the toothy fish.
Today we crushed the trout on pilchards in some deep cuts. We got 25 to 22in free lining baits back in the current. Until today its been 5-6 a trip, but they are all in the 18-23in range. Look for the trout bite to stay good until the waters warm to much.
Redfish are here I just need a little water and the winds to cooperate for me. Low tides and east winds have kept it shallow and by the time is deep enough boat traffic has got the water all strirred up. They should really get going here as the next two months are really good for redfish.
I have only a few days open this month, so if you are looking to get some fishing in around Naples, call me. Tarpon season is also filling in and should only be a matter of time before we start to see the first schools of fish.

Target Species:

Snook, Trout, Redfish
