Fly Fishing Tampa Bay Florida

Capt. Nick Angelo
January 10, 2024
Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fly fishing Tampa Bay is off to a great start in 2024! Chilly and sunny days on the water lend to some great sight fishing conditions for redfish and snook on fly. Plenty of fish like trout and redfish are available on the edges and deeper holes during the negative tides as well.

It's a perfect time of year to hit the flats and backcountry areas along this stretch of Florida's gulf coast. For those traveling to the area and looking to bring a fly rod along, grab your favorite 7-9wt outfit with a floating line. Often cool water fly lines will work fine this time of year due to the chilly ocean temps. My favorite all purpose fly is a weighted olive or tan clouser with some sparse flash.

Look for the same trend to continue for the nest couple months. Get out there and wet a line!
