Passing Cold Front Gets Amberjack Hitting

Capt. Dave Pinkham
February 18, 2009
Venice - Saltwater Fishing Report

This is a great time of year for fishing on the Gulf. All of our shorter trips are producing lots of fish.

Right now most of the action is concentrated on the bottom. Some of the species we're catching aboard the Legacy are mangrove snapper, lane snapper, gag grouper, red grouper, porgie, and shark.

Yesterday as the cold front passed through we ran out to a shipwreck about 30 miles offshore. As the wind started moving the water around the big amberjack turned on.

Some of these fish weight up to 70 pounds and don't want to be pulled to the surface, let alone up into the boat.

The clients that chartered the boat all had their chance at catching these awesome gamefish, and I'm sure they will all be thinking about it for the next week as they rub their sore muscles.
