Georgia Sport Fishing Charters - Fishing Report for Jekyll Island and St. Simons Island Georgia
If you're looking to catch monster size Redfish, then look no further than the Georgia coast! Bull Reds up to 50 inches are common from April until mid May each season, and the bite is already on this year.
Several Redfish over 45 inches and over 40 pounds have been landed on charters from St. Simons Island and Jekyll Island Georgia. The local rivers in this particular area of the GA coast grows monster size Reds, bigger than any Reds in the country, and that's a fact.
Very fresh cut bait is the key to calling these monsters to your hook in the murky waters of the Georgia coast. Hard running tides on and around the full and new moons bring excellent action for these bruiser size bulls. They roam channels and deep water and are also known to frequent covered sandbars throughout the sounds and bays along Jekyll Island and St. Simons Island.
It should also be known that these big Redfish are often caught throughout the summer months as well. This is highly dependent on bait availability and the mass migration of Menhaden (locally known as pogies) as spring presses on. Menhaden show up by the millions as they break up into dozens of massive bait schools, becoming prey for every local game fish around including huge Redfish, Tarpon, Spinner Sharks and Blacktips, giant Jack Crevalle and others. Menhaden are the backbone to the superb fishery in the southern coastal Georgia area in general.
