Lake Oconee - Freshwater Fishing Report

Water Temp 78
Hi Guys,
The summer slump is just about over here at Lake Oconee and we are glad about it. It is during these “dog days” that fishing becomes so very hard and it seems to me that the hybes get scattered all over the lake.
Just last week we went out and caught 6 hybes in a short afternoon trip, and I will tell you the feat was not short of being miraculous. But the cooler weather is starting to show up and as soon as the mud from Francis leaves, the fishing should be red hot.
I am looking for fish in the River Bend area and last week the 6 I caught were all found at Flagpole point.
I receive an interesting email from GA DNR which stated that this starting next year the will be re-introducing striped bass into Lake Oconee. The numbers are something like 250,000 hybrids and 200,000 stripers will be stocked. That is really good news for us guys but I know the green fish guys are going to really start complaining.
In 3 years we should be boating stripers around 5 pounds. Dreams do come true!
Tight Lines
Doug Nelms
