Lake Oconee, Madison Georgia

Lake Oconee - Freshwater Fishing Report

Water temp 82

Water is slightly stained. What a long hot summer this has been. As I last reported, I have never seen the water temp get as hot as it did this year. Which means it will probably take it a little longer to cool off for better fishing.

In the middle of October has always been the time when the hybes began to show up. We catch alot of nice fish during the winter months but I have a sneaky feeling it will not get good until November.

The small hybes are everywhere on the lake and you can look for them schooling and throw a rooster tail into the school. The stripers should be showing up this spring and according to my friends at the DNR they should weigh about 1 to 1 1/2 pounds this spring. Sorry there is nothing good about this time of the year. This is normally the time I vacation from fishing, but we are getting ready for a great crappie and hybrid season in a few weeks. I will let you know when it is on!

Tight lines

Doug has been guiding on Lake Oconee for over 10 years. His specialty is trophy Striped and Hybrid Bass, and huge Crappie during certain months. His boat is a Ranger 2300 Bay Series powered by a 225 Yamaha 4-stroke motor. It is spacious and can fish up to 6 people! Lake Oconee is the second largest reservoir in the state of Georgia with over 18,000 surface acres of water. The lake is heavily stocked each year with Striped and Hybrid Bass. Doug tries to catch all of them!
