Gulfport - Saltwater Fishing Report
Made a run to Cat Island recently for Amanda McCoy, a staff photographer at The Sun Herald to gather pictures for the upcoming issue of Beach Blvd. magazine.
While there we managed to squeeze in some fishing, and for the time we had to fish it was really good.
A stop in Smugglers Cove led to a fine mess of ground mullet and white trout, and in a short period of time 40 or more were boxed. The bottom bite was hot and relentless, and Berkley Gulps were effective too, that's if they made it through the upper level of bluefish and ladyfish.
Later in the afternoon, wade fishing to the backdrop of a beautiful setting sun, I managed to cath my 3 fish limit of redfish by tossing a 1/2-ounce Mr. Champ Spoon. What great fun on light spinng tackle, and in less than 1 1/2-feet of water.
Wade fishing is extremely exciting and relating, and here at TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS we can arrange for your personal wade fishing adventure. By the way, caught another tripletail recently, a 3-pound specimen, and a first for my brother-in-law Gary Gardner of Vancleave, MS.
Our coastline is protected by a chain of large barrier islands, and each offer great wade fishing potential for a wide variety of species like speckled trout, redfish, flounder, jack crevalles, bluefish, ladyfish, Spanish mackerel, and an ocassional pompano.
This is a great time of the year to fish and explore these magnificent offshore islands, another adventure in the making for the adventureous angler.
Hey, fishing is great in south Mississippi, so don't pass up a great day on the water.
Regards,
Capt. Robert L. Brodie of TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS
