Mississippi Sound - Saltwater Fishing Report

Today was a great day to be fishing in South Mississippi. My clients were Travis Hartzell and Matt Zvonkovic of Houston, Texas, and together this duo boated 90 ground mullet, 5 sheepshead, 1 black drum, and a beautiful 20-pound bull redfish.

We started in the Back Bay of Biloxi around the old Ocean Springs Fishing Bridge where they batteled the sheepshead and drum out of tight structure. As the weather cleared and winds died down, it was off to the oyster reefs in the open water of the Mississippi Sound.

Once the "Secret Reef" in 7.5-feet of water was located it was non stop fish catching action from southern kingfish a.k.a. "ground mullet", and the guys hammered 90 of the big fat beauties before Matt hooked into a large drag stripping fish.
With the St. Croix in a full arch, and the 10-pound-test Yo-Zuri quickly peeling off the small Shimano spinning reel, it was evident Matt was in for a battle. In the end, Matt managed to wear down the big fish, and a big bull redfish was defeated. What a way to end the day!
Yeah, the ground mullet were still biting, and they do make excellent table fare, but our boxes were full and it was time to head back to the D'Iberville Marina with their catch. In all, another great fun-filled day of fishing in South Mississippi.
By the way, since the ground mullet and white trout are such prolific spawners, they isn't a size or numbers limit on them in Mississippi waters. Wonderful clients, plenty of fish biting, and a day of beautiful weather, these are the days we truly enjoy.
Fishing in South Mississippi is about to get really good, and by next month it will be great. So come fish with us this summer, I'll do my personal best to put you on some fish, and show you a good time. Good fishing!
Regards,
Capt. Robert L. Brodie of TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS
