Subject: Schnable...Greers Ferry & tailwaters report
Little Red River
Lindsey's Resort (501-302-3139) said the water is crystal clear and at normal level for this time of year. No generators are currently running. Trout are biting excellently on wax worms floated with Power Bait, corn and night crawlers. Fly-fishing has been excellent as well.
water releases have been very low with several days with no generation. Only two days in the last week have seen water releases at 3,500 – 7,000 cfs. Lots of smaller browns are being caught along with rainbows on smaller streamers. Bigger browns have been tough.
Greers Ferry
As of Wednesday, the Army Corps of Engineers reports the lake's elevation at 454.1 feet msl (normal conservation pool – 461 msl).
Tommy Cauley of Fish Finder Guide Service said the water temperature is in the high 50s to low 60s and falling. Bass fishing is still pretty tough, with a lot of fish still floating around suspended. They will eat the Arkansas Claw at times, and some deeper fish will eat a football head or C-rig when they go to the bottom to feed some. Up shallow, try spinner baits in the wind and shallow crankbaits. The in-between fish can be caught with a drop-shot and a jighead worm. No report on catfish. Crappie are biting fairly well up the rivers in 10-18 feet of water on Road Runners, grubs, and minnows. Walleye fishing is slow. Bream are eating during the middle of the day on night crawlers in 18-27 feet of water. Hybrid and white bass fishing is picking back up after the rain and wind have re-oxygenated the water and the turnover is subsiding somewhat. Try spoons and in-line spinners, as well as grubs and swim baits.
