Salmon River - Freshwater Fishing Report

Not a lot of time for updates this time of year, sorry. I am only open September 4, 5 & 10. That is it for the 2007 lake season.
Although conditions have been tough on lake ontario with all recent wind, The King Salmon fishing continues to entertain anglers from Henderson Harbor west to Fair Haven. Most of the kings are weighing around 16 pounds with a few in the mid to upper 20's. We are taking most of our salmon in 300 to 600 feet of water. The recent winds moved temperatures all overand we are finding fish down 50 to 100 feet.
Good numbers of of brown trout and salmon are being found in 50 to 80 feet of water.
This past Sunday, my party landed 12 browns in under 3 hours. Michigan Stingers in the Natural born killer, dirty white boy & lemon/lime and the NK Diehard spoon are all working well, as are the E-chip flashers and flies in green or white.
Bass fishing in and around Oswego and ford Shoals is providing some really good catches. Fish small jigs tipped with Mister Twister grubs. Slowly bounce the jigs off rocky bottoms and work the shoals and drop-offs. Crabs and worms are always a good bet. Also try the ares around 4 mile point in Scriba and the a the green can just west of Oswego. Worms and crayfish drifted along the bottom are always the top producers there, but many anglers prefer to cast or troll small crankbaits.
There has been some bass and northern pike action on Sandy pond and Lakeview Marsh, especially along the weed lines. Cast spinnerbaits, rubberworms, small crankbaits and of course don’t forget the jitterbugs and buzzbaits for some hot top water action.
On Oneida Lake fishing with jigs has slowed down and now the walleye are showing a preference for trolled baits over the deepest part of the lake 45 to 55 feet. Look for bass in about 6 ft. of water using crayfish and worms and panfish are doing well along the shoreline.
Now is a great time to schedule a lake charter. The kids are out of school and area captains are available for lake charters. Just log on to Lakeontariooutdoors.com There you will find, daily fishing reports, numerous links to great sites and area businesses, as well as lake charters and river guides.
