Cape Fear River - Saltwater Fishing Report

I left the dock out of Snow's Cut Wildlife landing with a party of three on the boat around 7:00 am on the morning of the lunar eclipse tides were exceptionally high.Heading south toward Bald head Island, river was calm making for a great ride on the Pathfinder.First stop of the morning Dale made a cast with a live finger mullet on a Carolina rig to a spot I pointed out along the bank, wham the rod bent over, with the line running off the Penn Fierce reel hard.I looked at him and just smiled for I knew this was what we had come for red drum action.
This fish made a long hard run with the current and surfaced way to far out to determine for sure what it was,Dale manage to work him back with in 30 yards of the boat when it surface again when I spotted the large tail I knew then it was a large red drum, after several more runs away from the boat I ask Dale to back the drag off just a little,to make sure we did not snap the line,Dale eased the red drum along side the boat and I lifted it out of the water.

This is the kinda action the Hanner family comes back to fish with me year after year, light tackle red drum fishing.
The rest of the day I moved around quite a bit from spot to spot trying to find another big red drum, but was only able to find slot size red fish, which was just find for the table.
