San Juan - Saltwater Fishing Report
Hi there Captain Till Brauer reporting from beautiful San Juan, Puerto Rico! Hope all of you anglers are doing well, the fishing has been very productive for the last few weeks ans quite honestly I have not had a chance to write reports due to the high volume of anglers from around the worls that have come to see a and experience the San Juan Estuary fishery firsthand, with a full 100 percent of anglers catching thier first tarpon while fishing live bait with us.There has not been a charter so far this season that has not caught a tarpon!
The tarpon have come in great numbers and with some large specimens over 150 pounds in the last couple of weeks, on our new boat, a 2008 Hydra Sport Bay Bolt 19, we have had a nice run of large fish released and many smaller Tarpon, Snook of all sizes and several other species caught and released.
Our guest fishermen come from all corners of the USA, with several Europeans and Asian citizens as well.
Fishing is a universal language and we all belong to the same fraternity!
Live baits used most recently include Mojarra, Bay Anchovies and Threadfin Herrings. All fish are as usual fished on Owner Mutu light Circle hooks in sized 4/0 to 7/0 depending on the size of the bait. This hook continues to protect our fishery by almost eliminating gut hooked fish while providing secure hookups for the often difficult to hook tarpon! We continue to use Shimano and Abu Garcia Reels along with Shimano, Fenwick and Custom made rods. We acknowledge John Chapman from www.purefishing.com for his continued support, providing Stren, Abu Garcia and Fenwick Rods for our evaluation, always delivering high marks against some of the world's toughest gamefish.
As usual we can be reached directly at 787-448-6665!
