I have been down to Flamingo twice this summer for the first time in my life and can say IM hooked for life. I have only fished the Florida Bay side but noticed the other ramp with leads to Whitewater Bay. I went in June and August both of the times that ramp seemed empty, actually it was empty. I intend on going in the upcoming week is there something I should know? I know how the mosquitos get, is that a factor why I seen the ramps empty? I know Hell's Bay and Lane Bay can be a nightmare to navigate but I will not get so into it on my first trips into Whitewater Bay.

This is about the time of year the fishing starts to pick up in whitewater bay.....You might want to get a detailed chart and follow it very closely because you CAN get lost back there if you get turned around. The best thing to do when you fish back there is to take it alittle at a time. My suggestion would be to start at a marker and go to either the east or west side while keeping the markers in sight and work the shorelines and you should find a pattern. Snook and Redfish should start showing up in the backcountry. I have caught some really nice fish in whitewater bay....try midway island...its easy to get to and you can't get lost there and just work your way back to the ramp and you should have a productive day...good luck.

Thanks for replying snook2005... i have a Flamingo chart, as well as, a gps. I have another question do you usually sight the reds or just work the mangrove edges? Reason why i am asking is because im not to thrilled with the whole poling/sight fishing ordeal.

regarding the poling and sightcasting you won't need to do that unless you go way back along the eastern or western shorelines where the waster does get shallow, just plug the shorelines with lures. Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
