It happens every year—as soon as the weather cools, the Grouper move closer to shore.
In the last 2 weeks, we have seen the migration from 60 to the 50 foot mark.
Anchoring in 52 feet, we tossed out some frozen sardines to get the bite going. With a stronger-than-usual tide, 6-ounce sinkers were needed to keep your bait from drifting away. My clients immediately began pulling up the Red and Gag Grouper, every once in a while putting one in the fish box for the ride home.
This is also the time of year for ingfish, so a flat line out while Grouper fishing is a must.
The line we set out was attacked 3 times within an hour. Three 15 pound Kingfish later, we started to troll the area. We ended up with 3 more Kings released in the 20 pound range.
