Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

This full moon we had this past week got some really big fish biting. Some huge kingfish hit the dock this week. In fact, one of the biggest was a true monster, capping the scales at 65 pounds. The fish ate a live goggle eye fished out of the kite. This time of the year is a great time for kite fishing. The wind is strong and steady and there are some large surface feeding fish swimming through as well. The moon probably had a lot to do with the increased amount of big fish caught this week. The moon affects fish more so than other variables when it comes to fishing. I normally prefer to fish just about any moon other than the full moon, as fish get 'weird' around the full moon. But once in a while, it turns out to the be the best fishing of the month. This is the month for big fish, so anything can happen.

Wahoo are also very moon dependent fish. We catch them the best from the day before the full moon to the day after. Those 3 days can be some epic wahoo fishing. We caught this 50 pound plus wahoo the other day, which was one of two on a double header catch. The other fish was nice too, probably a 30 pounder.

Big jacks, groupers, cobia, sharks and barracuda are all biting good around our local shipwrecks. Fishing around the shipwrecks is like taking the bait right to the dining room. We drop down to the bottom and if we haven't had a bite in a couple minutes of hitting down, then we reel up and go try another spot. It's fast paced fishing and it can yield some big fish this month.
Our Ft Lauderdale fishing trips are boating some big fish. This is a great time of year to go out there and try for some of the biggest fish of the year. Good luck to everyone fishing this week. I'll sea you on the water.
