Offshore Fishing In Fort Lauderdale

Capt. Vinnie Sacks
August 1, 2023
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Hello everyone, Capt. Vinnie here this week in the Fort Lauderdale area we are going to start the report off with an offshore report, this week we had a series of longer trips around 8 hours so I have been going offshore in search of mahi mahi. Now we have been getting a few mahi mahi on these 8 hour trips but not as good as I would of liked to see I still think it is a tad early but it is good to see. Most of the mahi that we have been catching the last few days have been far offshore anywhere from 15 miles to 17 miles, thats why the all day trip is a must. Birds have been the magic ticket to catching fish right now, although there is a few areas with scattered seaweed, birds are always going to be the guarantee. We did catch a very nice sized bull mahi this week that was 58inches long and weighed in at 34lbs (pictured) one of our great clients caught it for his birthday. Congrats on the great fish and happy birthday! Moving inshore the snapper fishing remains hot on the reef when the conditions and right, yellowtail snapper, mangrove snapper, and mutton snapper would be the catch as of late. Anchoring up and chumming is going to be the preferred method to target the snappers right now. Trolling on the reef using planers to take baits down under the surface has been key to being successful with the hotter water temperatures. Plenty of bonito are still eating everything insight as well as a few king mackeral. Moving a littler deeper there has been blackfin tuna and wahoo but early mornings and late afternoons have been the best. Still plenty of actions and lots of options open of fish to catch right now off the coast of Fort Lauderdale. This week please be sure to check out some of the great photos we have of some recent catches while out on our deep sea fishing charters, and remember to give us a like and follow on facebook and instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing content. We have a good amount of availability for the month of august so if your coming down to Fort Lauderdale and looking to do some deep sea fishing look us up we would love to show you a great time on the water.
