Mississippi Sound - Saltwater Fishing Report

Before we left the dock on Monday my crew stated they wanted plenty of frying fish for the dinner table, well, with that said it was off to the fish-filled reefs near the barrier islands.

Once there it was pretty much a fish on every drop down, and Greg Morris, Robert Brown, Timothy Taylor, & Charles Newsome proceeded to catch fish like they have never experienced in their lives.

Simple single hook bottom rigs and fresh dead squid was all that was needed to haul in the ravenous fish. Stopped counting at the 200 mark, but we decided to make a quick run to the barrier island's surf before heading back to the D'Iberville Marina.

Although it was to rough to get to the outside bars where the big sheepshead have been congregating by the hundreds and hundreds, a few baits fished inside the breakers managed to top of the ice chest wih 5 hefty sheepshead.
This is really neat fishing, and in the crystal clear shallows the fish can be seen swimming all around the flats as they approach your bait. Cool stuff!
Back at the marina we formed an assembly line of sorts, and we had fun talking about out trip as we cleaned the big catch.
Ran another short trip on Tuesday with Walt Denton of Biloxi, MS, his wife Cortney, and their soon to be 5-year-old son Turner.

Walt wanted this to be a great experience for Turner, and on his first cast he reeled in a big white trout. Turner looked to be a natural at fishing and caught most of the 30 trout they brough back for the diner table.
Turner caught trout on bottom rigs as well as on popping corks, and he had to carry his bagged fish fillets on his lap on the ride home.
Hey, he was ready to eat some delicious fresh fried white trout as soon as possible. That was so funny! Kids are simply a hoot!
Heck, Turner even caught a number of stingrays and oysterfish, and he got a big thrill when the long-tailed rays came to the surface.
By the way, fishing the white trout and ground mullet reefs is a great way to introduce your kids to fishing, and the fast action seems to keep them occupied on their introductory trips.
Plus, we can be fishing in calm waters mere minutes from the launch, thus all of your time is spent fishing not running to and from the fishing grounds.
Water temperatures are on the rise, nearing 70 degrees, and it's about to bust loose here in south Mississippi. So book your trip now before the dates get filled up!

With the warm water temps look for the big Spanish mackerel, Florida pompano, and tripletail a.k.a. "blackfish" to show up in good numbers anytime now.
Hey, it's only going to get better and better!
Regards and many thanks to all,
