Pascagoula River - Saltwater Fishing Report
Delayed by the flood of fresh water dumped into the Pascagoula River by Hurricane Gustav, the speckled trout have finally moved in. We are getting a lot of strikes on top water lures, so we are pretty much sticking to that because it is so much fun. The bigger ones are around two pounds, but most of them are just barely keepers.
Over the next several weeks we will be seeing some much bigger trout. October and November produce a lot of four and five pounders with an occasional monster up to seven pounds.
The reds are in good numbers in the shallows. They are also hitting top water lures, but I recommend the cocohoe jig for the best catch.
This is also the time of year for the migration of flounder out of the river. You can catch some really nice females from now until November. Either live bait or cocohoe jigs will catch these flounder on the points.
This is the best time to fish if you are looking for a lot of action.
