Bozeman - Freshwater Fishing Report
Winter is approaching but not quite here. Brown trout are still spawning, some are spawned out and others will be spawning in the next few weeks. Some of the largest lake run browns seem to be late spawners and don't arrive in the rivers until late November so this is still an exciting time to target huge browns in Montana. Yellowstone Park is now closed but there is still some good lake run brown fishing on the Missouri and Madison.
Spring creeks and some of the bigger rivers still have some lingering blue winged olives hatching which are bringing some fish to the surface on mild days with some cloud cover.
Nymphing an streamer fishing has been very effective. Trout are definitely still looking for egg patterns but baetis nymphs are also producing along with big stoneflies. We have had some solid streamer fishing in recent weeks slow swinging them with a steady retrieve. The bigger the better.
