Wrightsville Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report
Wrightsville Beach:
There are lots of Red and Black Drum being caught in the surf. Although sight casting for them has been difficult over the last couple of days with recent wind and rain. There have also been some Speckled Trout being caught from Topsail Island down to Carolina Beach. Mirrolures and Grubs are working the trout and topwaters will get the drum if you can find them schooled up to cast at'em. Prospecting with fresh shrimp and sandfleas has also been working if the water conditions are not suitable for sight casting.
Wilmington:
The Striped Bass have fired up here in the Cape Fear. I landed a several nice fish last week pre fishing for the First Annual Cape Fear Striped Bass Tournament, an all catch and release tournamnet, the largest was 33". My anglers, Don Latella and Skipper Smith of Fayetteville, landed six fish, the largest was 25" and lost four or five other fish. There were over seventy fish caught and forty of those fish got tags during the one day event. Special Thanks to Cape Fear River Watch for putting together the event and all those involved. Thanks for letting me be a part of this event.
Still booking trips for Cape Fear Striped Bass for the Winter season.
