Bass Fishing great in small rivers near Nashville

Nashville - Freshwater Fishing Report
Living in the city of Nashville, there are opportunities to fish an abundance of small creeks and rivers within a short drive of downtown. Some of these areas are best to be fished while wading and walking the bank. Other times it works great to take a kick boat or small kayak, especially right after a good rain, when other larger rivers are flooded and blown out, which was the case today. Holly had the day off from work for her birthday and wanted to float the Harpeth River. Unfortunately there was a large storm a couple days ago, and it would be at least another week before the Harpeth was fishable. Instead we did a short 3 mile float on a Nashville Creek. With all the city noise you were definitely reminded that you were in an urban environment, but there were also times when wildlife, and beautiful scenery made it feel as you were miles away.
Fishing was great too, we must have had over a hundred bites each, the only thing was the majority were quite small, mostly rock bass and little bass that were under 8″. Many times you would set the hook and loose one of the appendages off your soft plastic lure. There was also quite a bit of slimy green vegetation which made it impossible to drag any type of lure along the bottom. We stuck to topwater, and weightless soft plastics, (Zoom Speed Craw, and a Yamamoto Cut Tail). This creek also sets up perfect for fly fishing, with the size of the fish, and having plenty of room for back casting. Im definitely going to give that a try, the next time I fish this area.
Overall, it was surprisingly a very enjoyable fishing experience! When you live in a city and only have a limited amount of time to fish, it's nice to be able escape for a few hours and get out on the water. Those who live in Nashville sure are lucky for what they have, there are few cities in county that can rival the amount of areas to access for those what want to go fishing!

Most the river and creek fishing surrounding Nashville is very weather dependent. During times of drought, the larger rivers will be your best bet, and after heavy storms the smaller creeks will be more productive. Regardless of the weather, it seems there is always a great place to catch fish somewhere near Nashville
